Oh my God, you were are boy scout and you've never fired a weapon?
This pretty much sums up my experience in the bars in Tulsa. This came from the friende of a girl who owns 3 guns. A 30-ought-8, a 3030 and something else.
And someone should have warned me not to talk about President Bush, let alone Afgahnistan.
"Yeah, there are probably people that dont like America fir [sic] some reason."
Ya think? I liked these girls, especially how patriotic they were, but at the same time, there ferverent single minded point of view only strengthend my theory that the press of America is totally letting its citizens down.
All I said was, "They believe they had a reason for what they did" and all of a sudden, I was apparently telling htese girls that what happened was a good thing, and how would I like it if it happned to my country?
I let them go on for a long time, and played devil's advocate for a while, untill I realised that these people were totally unable to objectively talk about these things. Everything was taken personally, and at a level that offended. Eventually, I started to get concerned - it would have been very easy for the entire bar to start beating the crap out of me, and remember, this is the state where you can get a concealed weapon license.
"You must hate us, we are very American". No - I don't hate you just because you have the strongest sense of patriotism that I've ever seen. I find it kind of charming. But I do think it is a little sad that you are not more aware of world opinion. If you did, and had the ability to objectively debate something, the conversations would have been on par with Dennis Miller (the best speaker I've heard in a long time).
