The service department is responsable for looking after the product after the product
has been comissioned and has left engineering.
This entails alot of talking on the phone, but mostly for me, it means a site trip to
PDVSA since September 2000.

Every geek takes a picture of his desk.
What you see here (from right to left) is:
-
Compaq Armada E500 laptop, running linux
- Dell Inspiron, running win2k, with only 64 meg RAM. pig slow
- HP Jornada 690, running CE
- Digital workstation running NT4
- Jonathan in the background, laughing at the geek taking a picture of his desk.

Wanna see some of the hardware?

Mostly, the machine are DEC 2100 ALPHA servers:
- cpu
- memory
- 2 100Mb/s ethernet cards
- 2 internal ultra wide SCSI controllers
With them inside the cabnet is a XYZ raid controller, with two internal hot-swap disk controllers.
Connected to the raid controllers are 2 DEC SCSI disk packs, with various combinations of 4.3 and 9 gig disks arranged in a raid 0 (mirror) fashion.
Some of the other smaller systems are DEC ALPHA 400au workstations (that we use as servers) they have similar configurations, but usually only 1 CPU and less RAM. The picture here is one of them being serviced. Live.
