To quote James Bykowy,
Arepas are like an english muffin made from corn flour. But that's about where the similarity ends.
And it really is the best description. My favourite is where they deep fry it
(nearly all arepa meals start this way) and then crush it up into chunks. Then they pile onto it
- beef or chicken
- coleslaw
- strips of cheese
- parmesean cheese
- katchup
- mayonaise
- ham
A keep repeating the list untill the pile is the Right Hight at which point thek stick a
fork in it and call it ready. This is called a "Arepa ful equipo" (pronounced: ah rey pa
full a key poh) and literaly means and arepa with all the equipment, but really means
"with the works", and I have only ever had it in Cabimas at a food stall call
"Mini Tren de Sabor" which means the little train of taste.
